NYT Quips (web tool, 2013)

From the puzzles of Fermat to the scrawls of Twain, marginalia have captivated readers since the beginning of the written word. Inspired by the rich interactions surrounding marginalia, Quips is an experiment to re-imagine the online reading experience.

Through installing a cross-browser extension, Quips enables online readers to highlight and comment in the margins of NYTimes.com articles. Readers are able to choose how and which parts of their comments to share, to however many people. A user can have multiple conversations on the same news story, or take notes for personal reference as she reads.
